D.W. Distribution, an S.B.P. brand is currently looking to hire a Transportation Manager to join our VALUES based organization to provide operational oversight, day-to-day management, customer interface, and required reporting and compliance mandates (both internal and external) for a specific location. Represents company management with customers concerning issues of shipment management, route scheduling, billing, driver issues, safety, fleet maintenance and general logistics matters. Directly supervises non-exempt staff and manages financial performance. Position has full supervisory responsibility for recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, retention, performance development, performance management, teammate relations, and recommendations of termination of direct reports. Will coach and develop location employees to support company initiatives and location/region goals. Identifies issues related to resource needs (driver shortage) for the location's needs and customer requirements. Responsible for development, preparation and analyzing of location transportation budget and financial controls. The Transportation Manager will coordinate all the functions associated with the transportation department relating to some inbound and all outbound flow of material and finished goods from the distribution center.

 

Department Management

· Ensures the safe and timely transportation of all shipments to the customer destinations. Manages operational expenses to optimize all cost per truck

· Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates and coaches all fleet drivers and transportation department personnel

· Facilitates and attends staff meetings on a monthly basis

· Leads and oversees all aspects of customer contract compliance and management with a concentrated focus on retaining the customer. Includes adherence to all staff, driver, and vehicles requirements, as well as KPI, billing and budget management

· Assesses and regularly provides management with updates on safety and driving

· Manages the transportation department budget, ensuring the appropriateness of all expenses

· Negotiates contracts and services with third-party transportation providers

· Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits, controlling expenses and improving services

· Assesses resource needs, problems, trends and plans accordingly. Tracks and addresses labor variances, efficiently uses stand-by drivers, minimizes third party transportation use. Partners with Corporate Recruiting for strategies on driver shortages as needed. Maintains knowledge and understanding of local market for wages

· Directs the fleet dispatcher in all their responsibilities, providing backup support whenever necessary

· Collaborates with other departments to ensure exceptional service is provided to customers

· Maintains and updates policies, handbooks and procedures per regulations, agency directives and company strategy

· Drives employee engagement and recognition within the location. Champions and is visible at location sponsored events for the community or for location employees

Transportation Compliance

· Ensures that the company is compliant with all DOT regulations

· Ensures that all fleet drivers are licensed, trained, certified and tested as per DOT regulations and Company policies

· Maintains and monitors all documentation associated with driving records, physicals, testing, training and licensing

· Manages and monitors location compliance with federal, state, local, contractual, and company policies and procedures

· Executes investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents, and to improve safety procedures

General/Administrative

· Supports the company vision and mission and demonstrates the corporate core values in all professional activities.

· Complies with all OSHA safety requirements, work rules and regulations.

· Compiles and maintains all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

· Follows systems and procedures outlined in company manuals.

· Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.

· All other duties as requested by management.

Fleet Maintenance

· Schedules emergency and routine maintenance and repairs of all fleet vehicles and equipment

· Manages vehicle inspections for all fleet vehicles, ensuring that they have been carried out

· Designs delivery routes and conducts on-going analysis to ensure optimal use of company resources while meeting services expectations and value propositions

· Supervises all vehicle and equipment maintenance, ensuring that service providers supply effective preventive maintenance that is timely and cost effective

· Arranges for back-up vehicles as needed to ensure uninterrupted deliveries to all customers

· Directs fleet utilization to ensure optimization in terms of time, miles, MPG, stops per day and revenue or GM per stop

Qualifications

Formal Education and Certification

· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

· Lean certification preferred.

Knowledge and Experience

· Three to five years of experience in transportation management

· Proven experience in leading and advising strategy related to distribution logistics

· A successful record of budget management

· Experience with lean initiatives and successful implementation of lean projects within a transportation department

· Familiarity with Agility, Samsara, Appian, DRTrack software systems is desirable but not required.

· Committed to Safety Lifestyle

· Proficient computer literacy is essential with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with other software such as timekeeping and payroll systems is preferred.
